Victims of Technology: Bank Robbers

The growing credit-card and debit-card-it-ization has lead to a decrease in cash at banks. As a result you get stories like these:

Bandits hold up cashless credit union: Two masked men burst into the Benicia credit union just before noon today with weapons drawn. They bellowed at employees to drop to the ground and hand over their money.

[...]

The robbers apparently had no idea they'd attempted to rob a credit union that immediately deposits its money, making it impossible for anyone to access it, Mortensen said.

and... from the 18/03/2006 Globe And Mail: Bank bandit blues: Plastic reducing cash at branches: The frequency of holdups is increasing, but the amount of payoff is decreasing as banks continue to improve their security techniques. It has almost become a thing of the past to deal with cash, as most people prefer to use credit cards or debit cards. So, in most cases, there isn't much actual cash to be stolen.
