Annoyed: Thinkpad space bar
2004-11-27T09:21:32Z
I'm notsure what happened butover the lastcouple of days thespacebaronmythinkpad has stopped, well, spacing. It now only works if I press very precisely on the center of the space bar. But based on the very obvious wear mark on the right side of the space bar this is not going to be aneasy adjustment.
Update: Ok, I popped the space bar off again and realized that the springy-metal clip wasn't clipping appropriately. If you pop the space bar off the thinkpad x31 you must reinsert the ends of the metal springy thing on the bottom of the key into the ends of the strangely hinged plastic things on either side of the actual button/switch. They seem to function as a way of ensuring the entire key depresses at the same time. Seems a tad overdesigned to me, but what do I know.

Hello -- A few minutes ago I searched the name Sylvan Kamm on Google. The only 'hit' was your website where I found the following:

I don't know Lisa, but I don't imagine that there are more than 2 or 3 Sylvan Kamm's in the U.S. So I might have struck gold!
The Sylvan Kamm I knew in the early 1950s was working in D.C. for the federal government--Interior, perhaps. I was an investigative reporter. One evening--at some social event--he gave me a tip about scandalous goings-on in the Interior Dept.
From that tip I researched and broke the story--known later as the Al Surina Mines scandal--which changed Oregon politics.
My Sylvan would be in his mid- to late-70s, as I am. Why my thoughts turned to him last night, I'm not sure. It was some sort of nostalgia. My Google search this morning brought up only your website. So, I'm hoping to have struck gold! Please help us get back together if I'm right. -- Regards, Bob Alexander
P.S. I'm posting my message here because there was no way offered for posting it on the Comments page where I'd composed it. Apologies and Happy Holidays to all -- Bob Alexander
