The NY Times has started using some sort of interstitial ad which, at least on my generic WinXP system, is totally hosed. The symptoms are: I click on a link to go to a story, nothing appears to happen though you see the "Loading..." message in the status bar. After 20-30 seconds you get an annoying Microsoft interstitial ad. After that you can click around to skip the ad. Unfortunately for the Times, I'm not that patient.
